Dr. John Dehnel
Dr. John Dehnel is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist with extensive medical and surgical expertise in managing both rare and common eye conditions; he is passionate about helping care for his patient’s vision each day. Dr. Dehnel aims to deliver exceptional, cutting-edge care while treating each patient with respect, dignity, and kindness.

A native of Edina, Dr. Dehnel earned his undergraduate degree from Wheaton College in Illinois, a Master of Health Informatics from the University of Minnesota, and his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. During medical school, he received multiple academic awards and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He also received the Ethel Brickey Hicks Merit Scholarship—an honor awarded by class vote to the senior student who best represents the profession to the public. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, serving as chief resident from 2023 to 2024.

Dr. Dehnel resides in Minnetonka, and enjoys cooking barbecue with his Traeger smoker (a skill he picked up while living in Mississippi), biking, and photography. He has a deep passion for medical missions and volunteer work, having traveled to Guatemala, El Salvador, Belize, and participated in free ophthalmology clinics in Little Rock. He looks forward to continuing these efforts as part of his professional practice.
